BOOST

BOOST is here to help you bring your creative idea to life –  whether it’s just a spark or a fully formed plan.

Meet our current round of BOOST recipients in our latest blog.

Opportunity – take part in a BOOST project, Wellies

Wellies will be a devised play that explores the internal conflict of a protagonist torn between the values inherited from their family and their own evolving sense of self. As they enter adulthood, the protagonist begins to question the beliefs they’ve always held, confronting the tension between loyalty to their family and the desire for personal authenticity. Through intimate dialogue, familial conflict, and moments of self-reflection, Wellies delves into generational conflict and the emotional complexity of navigating one’s identity. The play’s central theme is the courage to forge a new path, breaking free from the expectations imposed by the past.

We are looking for actors who are passionate about creating work collaboratively and who have experience in developing projects with others. The workshops will focus on physical and imaginative engagement, where participants are encouraged to think outside the box, working within an improvisation process to explore new ways of telling stories. If you’re someone who thrives in a creative, experimental environment, and you’re open to working both physically and imaginatively, we’d love for you to join us.

These workshops will take place in the near future.

What kinds of ideas can we support?

To us creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something new and be inventive.

We think creativity runs through every day life in all areas. We are interested in all sorts of art forms including: cooking, gardening, craft, design, film, TV, music, theatre, dance, radio, photography, architecture, heritage and visual arts.

Who can apply?

Here’s a checklist to see whether your idea fits the bill, it must:

  • take place in Crawley
  • be made by a Crawley person (someone who lives, works or studies in Crawley)
  • be from an individual or a non constituted* Crawley group
  • aim to raise the quality of creative events/activity within the town

The idea can be something new within an existing event, but we can’t fund an existing programme of work.

We cannot accept applications from regularly funded organisations or as match funds for an existing idea.

*A non constituted group means that you are not a formally organised group that acts under a constitution

What kind of support can we provide?

There are many ways we can work together on your idea, such as offer cash or in kind support:

  • Getting a new creative idea off the ground
  • Helping to create marketing materials such as leaflets or banners
  • Costs of space and meeting room hire
  • Purchasing tools and equipment to develop your idea
  • Costs of training and support from other organisations
  • Helping to raise the aspirations and quality* of your idea or service you offer participants or audience
  • Helping to try a new skill
  • Spreading the word of your idea
  • A space to workshop ideas
  • Helping to complete risk assessments
  • Offering networking opportunities

How do we decide which idea to work with?

After the deadline, we collate all the applications and present a shortlist of ideas to our Playmakers so that they can decide who receives a BOOST.

When we look at your idea, these are the things we consider:

  • Is your idea realistic? Can the idea be completed with the resources on offer and work with our timeline?
  • If you are a non constituted group, have you discussed this with the rest of the group?
  • Do you need more time to consider how to develop your idea (if yes, why not apply in the next round of BOOST)?
  • If you have previously received support from a BOOST, you can still apply but this may be taken into consideration
  • Is your idea original?
  • Does your idea help get something new off the ground?
  • Does it help you to be brave creatively?
  • Does your idea improve the standards of creativity in your area?
  • Is your idea good quality?

If I’m successful, what happens next?

The next stage in the timeline is a meeting with the Creative Playground team to chat about how we can best support your project. We’ll announce all the successful applicants from this year Monday 2nd December. The creative work then begins!

What we ask of the applicants

  • To stick to the BOOST project timeline
  • 100 words to explain their BOOST idea, to be used as part of the launch in early December
  • An Event Report (we can support with this)
  • Towards the end of the project, to complete a survey and submit 100 words detailing how the process was for them
  • We will ask 1 or 2 of the BOOST’ers to write a blog post to help market the programme in the future
  • To attend a wrap up & review session
  • To send us images of the outcomes

How can I apply?
