BOOST was a way of helping local residents bring creative ideas to life. The programme has developed into the way we support Playmakers and Community Organisers. Community Organisers are individuals or community groups who already work to put on activity. You can find out more on the Creative Crawley website here.
Here are the ideas we supported between 2022 and 2025:
  • Adisa Banjanovic received mentoring from 64 Million Artists.
  • Crawley Writers Circle produced a Poetry Trail which featured as part of WORDFest.
  • Friends of Goffs Park were supported to develop their marketing and promotional materials for events they put on across Crawley.
  • Crawley Writers Room were granted support to deliver sessions at Crawley Community Action.
  • The Friendly Dragon by Richard Symonds was granted a BOOST to develop the children’s book Richard had written into a short film which premiered at a local primary school. We connected Richard with Focus Film School to produce the film.
  • James Fensom was supported through BOOST to develop his creative practice as a Workshop Facilitator, specifically through making flower crowns. James had the opportunity to deliver activity as part of Crawley Pride and with FreeShop Crawley.
  • Wellies by Kim Wright was a research and development opportunity for Kim to develop a new theatre play.
  • Catherine Sleeman received a BOOST to develop her professional practice as a Dance Practitioner by connecting with local schools to develop a curriculum aligned dance offer.
  • Musical Bingo by Ciara Lyons was a workshop project developed and delivered with Age UK and Crawley Town Community Foundation. Ciara engaged 60 elderly residents in a lively, fun filled session where participants took part in bingo with a musical twist.
  • Unmasked Prom by Sussex LGBT was a prom night for people who weren’t able to attend their secondary school prom as their authentic self. Engaging 30 residents who are part of the LGBTQIA+ community, the event featured local Drag Queens, dancing and a space to express indentity.
  • Dance for Healing by Sophia Newton was a day time event bringing together traditional Nigerian dance and live music with English Folk Dance. The event engaged 53 local residents in a participatory event encouraging folks to dance, be joyful and come together.
